Our Chicago condo was decorated for US – NOT some cheap, tacky rental property… Well, we finally did it.
We put our Chicago condo on VRBO and Home Away as a vacation rental. We bought it new about 4.5 years ago, and it has been fantastic for our family. We spent almost every weekend there for the first two years, but as the kids have gotten older, it has become harder to get there as much as we used to. We still intend to block it off for specific weekends and events, but this is a great way to offset part of the mortgage, cleaning fees, POA dues, and real estate taxes.
We listed it on Monday and have been blown away by the response. We got over twenty inquiries and six bookings in the first 48 hours. In fact, someone just booked online starting TOMORROW for three nights, so I’m running up tomorrow morning to clean out our dressers, closets, and wine rack and to make sure that everything is perfect for our first ever rental.

We furnished and decorated the place for the US, so it is all first-class – no cheap stuff that you find in “typical rentals.” Our condo is anything BUT typical. The location is perfect – just north of the Chicago River, two blocks from Navy Pier, and three blocks from Michigan Ave. The views are spectacular during the day AND at night. It is a corner unit on the 35th floor with perfect lake views, river views, and city views.
